We’re almost one month from school letting out and it’s typically right around this time that I start getting nervous for summer. As a stay at home mom (who works minimally from home while my kids nap or rest), I’m usually excited for the kids to be home with a slower pace, but also wondering–what are we going to do with all of that time together?? How do we make the most of it? And what will I do when the kids start to bicker or ask for screen time or tell me they’re bored over again?
I have found in my 8 or 9 summers of being a mom that making a game-plan for summer is one of the best ways to help the kids (and mom!) to thrive in the summer. Not everything will go according to plan, and the kids will still bicker and tell me they’re bored, BUT, writing out a plan for things like screen time, reading rhythms, bucket list ideas for fun and even ideas for when the kids (or mom!) are having a hard time, can make things so much easier in the moment.
Just recently, I invited 3 of my mom-friends to come on the More for Motherhood Podcast to chat all things Summer as a Mom, and I found the conversation to be so helpful. Real talk about the good and the hard of summers with kids and ideas for living into it well.
From that conversation, I got excited to make a game plan for summer, and out birthed a new resource–A Summer Planning Questionnaire and Guide for Christian moms!

This guide has 17 questions to help you reflect and plan well for summer with kids. Everything from Big picture questions like–

*What do you love about summer with kids? How can you lean into the things that you love about summer this season?
*What feels hard about summer with kids? How can you lean in even here? Are there places of sanctification God is inviting you to embrace? A new rhythm to try or a system that could be helpful? Even a friend or community you could invite into it with you?
The guide also includes weekly rhythm questions (complete with ideas) surrounding daily or weekly rhythms, intentionality with friends & family & your spouse, reading goals and screen time plans.
It also invites you to consider how you want to grow spiritually (both for yourself and your family), along with questions about helping you and your kids reset when things get hard in the summer.

It even has a few detail questions about water safety, appointments that need to be made and learning goals for family members.
What I love about this guide is that beyond 4 pages of reflection questions, it helps you put it all together on 4 pages of beautiful planning pages so that you (and your family) can see and remember the plan and ideas for summer. Including: A Summer At A Glance (May-August 2026 calendar); A Weekly schedule; A Summer Bucket list page for documenting ideas with the kids, and a plan page to write down some of your key answers from the reflection to help you remember and live it out throughout the summer.
I hope that these planning and reflection resources help you to lift up your hopes for summer to the Lord and to remember your intentions even when things feel difficult (or the kids say they are bored again!). I’m so excited to see how the Lord will use your intentionality with your kids to bless your family this summer!
