The Food, Activities + Places You Need to try This Fall

It is officially Fall season and with it has come a slight crispness in the air that has me all kinds of excited for Autumn activities. Actually, it’s not just the activities that I’m excited about–it’s the food, the fun seasonal places to visit, you name it–I’m here for it.

So this post is a round-up of sorts. I’ve gathered together all the good Fall posts from More for Motherhood as well as Fall seasonal activities in Northern Virginia, AND some favorite fall recipes, just so you can find them all in one place, and make sure you don’t miss one ounce of Fall magic. So, grab that mug of apple cider and get cozy as we explore all the things you can try this Autumn to live into the season.

If you’re looking for a Fall Bucketlist to complete–one with both kid activities and grown-up activities, you’ll find it here. Things like acorn hunts, pumpkin painting and apple picking for the kids! And how about fall beverages, seasonal baking and cozying up with a good book and a spiced candle for the grown ups? Yes, please!

For seasonal date night activities that are simple enough for tired moms and dads, but fun enough to actually keep you awake, check out this post here. The only thing better than date nights themed by the season are date nights planned by someone else!

For Fall recipes to try: savory pumpkin apple soup with an apple bacon compote is an absolute must. Pumpkin snickerdoodle cookies are an easy treat to deliver to neighbors, and this apple pie recipe is my all-time favorite in terms of simplicity and deliciousness. For drinks, this apple cider margarita and this sorghum cider punch (perfect for a party) are both winners.

When it comes to seasonal activities to try in Northern Virginia, I’ve rounded up a few that are definitely on our list. Now, just so you understand the criteria, there are many great places to go for apple picking and pumpkin picking. However, my priorities are: the least amount of driving distance (i.e. if it was an hour drive one-way, it didn’t make the cut), a fun seasonal experience, and at least some activities that cost $0 to go and do. I’ll also just add that this website has been a great resource for finding fun, Fall activities in Northern Virginia.

  • Cox Farms is sort of like a Fall carnival. It costs money to enter, and I definitely plan on only going on a week-day to avoid the crowds. Opens for full pumpkin season on 9/25.
  • Whitehall Farms – lower key than Cox Farms (still has an admission fee) but has pick your own pumpkins, a hay-ride and animals. Opens for pumpkin season 10/3.
  • Nalls Produce in Alexandria, has some fun pumpkin themed activities, a super instagrammable pumpkin wall and is free to visit. Pumpkin season begins 10/2.
  • Burke Nursery and Garden Center is also free and has fun pumpkin themed activities beginning 10/1.
  • Stribling Orchard, Hartland Orchard and Krops Crops all do pick your own apples and are within 45 minutes of driving from us, so they make our top picks for apple picking.

So that’s the Fall round-up! The activities, places and food you have to try this Fall. I hope they help you to live into the season with your family!
